Mommy’s on Break

Today I could not handle one more minute of whining before turning into “Mean Mom”, so I told my three year old I was turning myself off for ten minutes.

I plopped myself on the couch, waved my hands around myself like a force field and made noises like an engine shutting down.

This magical force field meant I couldn’t hear any whining or yells for “Mommy”. My butt was now stuck to the couch and I could not get up to get snacks or entertain.

My husband thankfully was not annoyed at this and played along. My daughter also thought this was a fun game and not me ignoring her (which it definitely was), which I was grateful for.

I believe sometimes we need to allow ourselves to have a break and “shut down”. And we don’t need to feel guilty for it.
